Dave Week 2018 Schedule

Dave Week began when three friends decided that it had been too long since they had gotten together. They decided to plan a super fun week to reconnect and Dave Week was born. If you would like the longer version of the history of Dave Week, click here.

We still plan activities together each year and would love to have you join us. Feel free to plan your own activities and spread the spirit of Dave Week by reconnecting and building the community around you wherever you live. The dates for Dave Week this year are January 16th-20th. Use the hashtag #DaveWeek to share what you are doing and to keep up with everything that is going on.

Monday, January 15th: Dave Week doesn’t actually start until the 16th, but in preparation for the week we will be making three stops between Salt Lake County and Utah County to give out free stuff.

We will stay at each of the three spots for an hour. When we get to each spot we will post a picture of where we are and the first person to find us gets a big prize. If you aren’t first, don’t worry! Everyone who finds us will receive some sweet Dave Week swag. The first to find us at each of the three locations will also be entered for the grand prize of two free tickets to the Dave Week Jazz game on the 20th, which includes special early entry.

Tuesday, January 16th: Treat Yourself! Even though it’s Dave Week, I always like to donate one day to you! Do something for yourself today. Call to get that thing checked out you’ve been putting off, check in on those resolutions you made, buy yourself something you’ve wanted for a long time, call up that person you’ve been thinking about, splurge at lunch and order double meat, or finally give up meat. I don’t care what you do, it’s your day!

If you’d like to treat yourself to some Leatherby’s ice cream, we will be at the Draper location, 372 E 12300 S, Draper, UT 84020, at 6:30 PM. If you decide to treat yourself to some healthy options, I know @DJJazzyJody has some great cauliflower crust recipes. Either way, we’d love to see you and hang out.

Wednesday, January 17th: Bowling and Laser Tag. Join us at the Lehi Jack and Jill Lanes. For $10 you get to mix-and-match three activities. These include bowling, laser tag, and the arcade. You can mix them any way you want. Most of us do two games of bowling and one game of laser tag. You can do all as bowling or just hang out in the arcade.

If you could let me know that you are coming, it would help me know how many lanes to reserve. We will be starting at 6:30, so try to get there around 6:15 if possible. If you can’t make it that early feel free to join us anytime.

Live too far away? Plan your own bowling night where you live and invite all of your friends! Then make sure to post about it using the #DaveWeek hashtag!

Thursday, January 18th: Focus on Others. You had a chance to treat yourself and to have some fun. Today is all about others. Dave Week began when two friends missed seeing me and decided to put together a really fun week for me.

Dave Week wouldn’t even exist if it wasn’t for two friends thinking about someone they hadn’t seen for a while. I didn’t have a lot of friends where I moved and it meant a lot to me that they still wanted to get together even we no longer lived in close proximity. Look at what that one simple act has become!

In the spirit of Dave Week, find that friend, neighbor, family member, and make their day! Heck, make their week, or even make them a week if you are really ambitious.

Friday, January 19th: Movie night. We used to go to a movie, but we wanted an activity that those outside of Utah could participate in. We decided to find something on Netflix that we could all start at the same time and then have a Twitter chat during. This year, in preparation for the Olympics, and because I love it, we will be watching Cool Runnings. We will be pushing play at 6 PM Mountain time. That’s 8 PM Eastern time.

Throughout the movie, I’ll be tweeting questions on Twitter with the hashtag #DaveWeek. Each question will start with Q1, Q2, Q3, etc. to help keep it organized. When you respond, start your tweet with A1, A2, A3, so that we know which question you are replying to. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #DaveWeek so that everyone participating can enjoy your thoughts. Some of the questions will be silly, some more serious, but they should all help us learn a little bit more about each other. Feel free to answer the questions even if you aren’t watching the movie.

The whole point of this week is to bring people together, to build community, and to make social more social. Be sure to invite your family and friends to join you as you watch and follow those you interact with online.

Saturday, January 20th: Jazz game. Those that purchased tickets through our site get early entry before the rest of the public is allowed into the arena. Meet at the main entrance at 4:50 PM. We will get to sit courtside to watch players go through their individual warmups.

If you would also like to join us for dinner, we will be meeting at Crown Burger two blocks north of the stadium at 4:00 PM. If you spend $18 or more they give you a free parking pass to stay in their lot during the game. So come buy dinner and get free parking!

The regular doors open around 5:30. For those that participate in early entry, they usually make us leave our courtside seats around 6:00 or so. If you haven’t eaten yet, there are plenty of great places in the arena. I’m sure we will all be hanging out somewhere if you want to find us.

If you didn’t purchase tickets through us, we always do a Tweetup at halftime with Thurl Bailey and Alema Harrington that anyone at the arena can join.

We’d love to have you participate with us at least once during the week! Please join in our events or create your own. There are people out there that would love to see you and to have something to do. The world is a place that too easily divides and brings down, let’s do what we can to come together this week, build each other up, and to have fun!

Dave Week Schedule 2017

Dave Week is January 22nd-28th and we would love for you to join us! Want to know more about what Dave Week is? Here is a brief history.

Please use the hashtag #DaveWeek throughout the week. There will be some prizes given out to random people that tweet or share things on social media.

Monday: Jazz Game

$15 gets you a ticket, hot dog, and early entry. Click here for more information on how to get your tickets as part of our group. Call Mike Bingham at (801)325-7221 for tickets.

Tuesday: Your Day

I know it’s called Dave Week, but I think everyone deserves at least one day of their own and I am more than willing to share this one! Today find something you have been wanting to do and do it!

Do something for yourself, something you’ve been putting off, learn something new, or just sit down for a few minutes and relax.

I will be going to night classes that night so that eventually I’ll have a master’s degree and will have additional opportunities for work should I ever choose.

Wednesday: Bowling and Laser Tag

Jack and Jill Lanes in Lehi has given us a 3 activities for $10 deal. Click here for more information.

Thursday: Service

Dave Week is about building community, so find a way to serve someone today. If each of us does at least one thing today to make the world a happier/better place we can make a big difference.

Feel free to share your ideas with the rest of us so that we can help! We are doing a shoe drive at my school, if you’d like to donate any wearable shoes to me after any of our activities we would gladly accept them!

Friday: Movie

One of the goals of Dave Week is to connect with each other face to face and to get away from being online. However, one of our founding members has moved out of state and we decided it would be fun to find a way to still include her and anyone else who isn’t within driving distance.

We will be watching The Emperor’s New Groove starting at 7 PM MST. If you don’t already own this classic, don’t worry, it’s on Netflix! Feel free to live tweet your favorite quotes throughout the evening using the #DaveWeek hashtag.

We will also have a Twitter chat that somewhat ties to the movie. This way we still can interact with each other and learn more about what makes each of us groove.

Want bonus Dave Week points? Invite someone over to enjoy the evening with you. Reconnect with someone you haven’t seen in a while, invite the new neighbors over, or just relax after the whirlwind that has been the last few days!

For updates check back here or follow @downrightdave, @lauremonoto, and @starmile83 on Twitter. You can also follow the hashtag #DaveWeek.

Dave Week Bowling and Laser Tag

Join us at Jack and Jill Lanes Wednesday, January 25th, for bowling and laser tag as part of Dave Week!

Jack and Jill’s address is 113 S 600 E, Lehi, Utah 84043.

$10 gets you three events mix-n-match style!

  • Bowling (shoes included)
  • Laser tag
  • $5 arcade card

Most people choose one game of laser tag and two games of bowling.

For those that can arrive by 6 PM, we will be checking in to start a game of laser tag at 6:15. This is a great option if you, or your children, have early bedtimes.

Those of you who can’t be here this early, try to be here before 7. You can do your game of laser tag after your two bowling games.

They would like us to check in for bowling at 6:45 so that we can be started by 7 PM.

If 7 PM is still too early, or you just want to come hang out, please still stop by anytime throughout the evening.

Also, you are not limited to the two games of bowling and one game of laser tag option. Feel free to bowl 3 games, or enjoy the arcade.

Dave Week Jazz Game

It’s that special time of year again, Dave Week! If you are a Dave Week Newbie, check out our Brief History so you know what it’s all about.

One of our activities during this week will be a Utah Jazz game. This year we will be going to the January 23rd Jazz/Thunder game. Tickets are $15 and include an upper bowl ticket, hot dog, as well as special early entry to the game. See below for more information on early entry as well as other times we will be meeting up throughout the night.

For tickets call Mike Bingham at (801)325-7221. His office hours are 9-5, M-F. If he’s not in the office, he is great at returning messages. Just tell him you are part of the Dave Week Group. Space in our group is somewhat limited, so the earlier you call the better spot next to us you will have. Huge thanks to Mike for helping us with this, be sure to call him for any ticket needs you have at the Viv.

Early Entry

One great thing about being part of this group is we get special early entry to the game! Before the rest of the crowd comes in we get to all hangout courtside and watch players go through individual workouts.

They used to let us get autographs and pictures, but they’ve been trying to keep the players more “focused” the last few years. It’s still pretty cool though, we get to all hangout courtside and watch the players go through their workouts and have some time to chat that isn’t as easily done during the game.

Meet at the Box Office before 5 PM to be a part of early entry. I know that isn’t possible with a lot of schedules, so there are plenty of other opportunities to hang out as well. Plus, we will be with each other all game long!

During halftime we always have a big “tweetup” outside portal SS. Even if you don’t get tickets through Mike, be sure to come hangout then! We always get a big group picture with Thurl Baily and Alema Harrington. We will be heading to portal SS with about two minutes left in the second quarter so we can get prime spots for the halftime show.

Post Game

After the game we will see if David (not Dave) Locke can spare a second for a picture as well. There are plenty of opportunities to get together, pregame, halftime, and postgame.

Even if you don’t get tickets with our group I hope that you will make it. If there’s only one Jazz game you go to this year, make it this one! Even if basketball isn’t your thing, it’s fun sitting together with everyone enjoying our night.

Also, in the spirit of Dave Week, maybe we don’t boo Kanter too much.

Dave Week 5 Schedule 2016

Dave Week is January 4th-9th and we would love for you to join us! Want to know more about what Dave Week is? Here is a brief history.

Please use the hashtag #DaveWeek throughout the week. There will be some prizes given out to random people that tweet or share things on social media.

In addition, this year Lauren (@lauremonoto) is going to put together a scavenger hunt with a prize given to the winner on Saturday. This will be a great way for those not in the area to still be able to participate.

Listed below are things you can find during the entire week. Each day I will post additional one day only items. Be sure to use the #DaveWeekHunt hashtag so we can easily keep track of points for the grand prize!

In addition to the #DaveWeek hashtag, each event will also have an event specific hashtag. Be ready to celebrate and have a good time!

Monday: #DaveWeekMovie

We will be seeing the 7:00 showing of The Peanuts Movie at the Water Gardens in Pleasant Grove. Tickets are $4 and can be ordered there or online. Bring your FHE group, family, kids, friends, or come on your own and make some new friends!

The photo scavenger hunt items for today are listed below.

Tuesday: #DaveWeekServe

Dave Week is about building community, so find a way to serve someone today. If each of us does at least one thing today to make the world a happier/better place we can make a big difference. This can be something simple or you can organize something a little bigger.

Wednesday: #DaveWeekLehi

Bowling/Laser Tag

Jack and Jill Lanes in Lehi has given us a 3 activities for $10 deal. Generally we do two games of bowling and one game of laser tag. We will begin at 6:30.

They would only reserve 6 lanes for us and want six people to a lane. If you aren’t one of the first 36 people there you may or may not be on lanes next to us, depending on availability.

Please RSVP. If we are going to have more than 36 people I need to put down a larger deposit to hold more lanes. If we don’t end up using those lanes then I don’t get my deposit back.

RSVP here on Facebook and if you are bringing additional people with you please leave a comment with the number attending.

Feel free to come late though. You are more than welcome to hang out with us and say hi to everybody there. This is the first of two activities, so if bowling is too early you can meet us at stop #2.

Culver’s of Lehi

Our goal is to be done with bowling/laser tag before 9 PM. Culver’s is expecting us anywhere from 9 PM until they close at 10:30. You are more than welcome to get there slightly before 9 PM as well so there isn’t a big wait when we all get there at once and place orders all at the same time.

Tell the cashier that you are there for Dave Week and they will give you a 10% discount on your order.

Thursday: #DaveWeekMyDay

I know it’s my week, but I think everyone deserves at least one day of their own and I am more than willing to share! Today find something you have been wanting to do and do it!

This could be some needed alone time to planning your own group activity but make it a special day.

Friday: TBA

Best case, we find something awesome. Worst case, Date Night is open. So I guess either way you win!

There may be a talent show via Vine, YouTube, or Periscope. So be thinking of a talent just in case. #DaveWeekTalent?

This would also give people not in Utah a better chance to participate. Although, we have had people all the way from Honduras and Europe participate in the past.

Saturday: #DaveWeekJazz

For those that would like to meet for dinner before the game, or that would like to join us without going to the game, we will have dinner at Crown Burger. If you spend $14 or more you can park there for free for the Jazz game. Or if you are just there for dinner you can park there for free.

Crown Burger is about two blocks north of the Arena. Meet here at 4:00 if you would like to eat with us. There are also a lot of great dining options in the arena.

Jazz Game Early Entry:

Those that purchase group tickets will get a group discount as well as special early entry. We need to be at the ticket office before 5:15 for those who are a part of this. In the past he has also allowed season ticket holders that are with us to go in early as well.

These special tickets are $28.25 and can be ordered from Steve Nord at 801-325-7222. He always has no fees and great deals for all events held at the arena. If he isn’t in his office just leave him a message and he will get back to you at his earliest convenience.

We get to sit on the first few rows of the arena while several of the players come out and do individual workouts with the coaches. When the players are done with their session we have been able to get pictures/autographs from several of them in the past.

Jazz Game:

For those that find other tickets, or who can’t make it by 5:15, the game starts at 7:00. There will be some small prizes for best Dave Week poster, so be ready to cheer, dance, yell, and have a great time!

Half Time:

Meet outside portal SS right before halftime. We usually start heading over there even a minute or two before the first half is over to get good spots. The past two years Dave Week has been mentioned and we have made it onto TV.

If you have signs be sure to either be in the back of the group or to hold them below your face so that as many of us can be seen as possible.

For updates check back here or follow @downrightdave, @lauremonoto, and @starmile83 on Twitter. You can also follow the hashtag #DaveWeek.

History of Dave Week

Did you hear about Dave Week and wonder what it is? Is this legit, is it really a thing? If you were too afraid to ask, here’s a quick history of how this week came to be.

Dave Week is a week full of activities that bring people together. It started with three friends and quickly went viral. Originally, the activities have been based in Utah. As Dave Week has grown it has reached all over the world from England to the Philippines. We continue to try to find ways that anyone anywhere can participate.

It all began the year I moved away from college in Provo to my house in Lehi. Two of my best friends, Lauren and Elyse, missed the crazy adventures we always had when we lived in the same apartment complex.

They asked me, “What do we have to do to get you to hang out with us again, create a week in your honor?” That sounded like a good idea to me and Dave Week was born. We began planning a week of fun so that the three of us could catch up.

Being the social media savvy people we are, Lauren said that we should start a hashtag. She jokingly said that maybe we could get #DaveWeek to trend! It didn’t just trend, it became the #1 trending thing in SLC that week. What began as a reunion between three friends went viral and blew up into something much bigger than any of us ever dreamed of or intended it to be.

The three of us had been friends in real life for several years, but as we posted on social media throughout the week it became clear that a lot of our “Twitter friends” were looking for fun things to do and ways to interact offline.

We found out that we had a great opportunity to bring the whole community together face to face. The reason some of us are on social media is we want that social interaction, but it’s so much better in person! Lauren always likes to say that Dave Week is all about making social, social.

People want to get out of their houses to get together, they want to help in the community, they just need an excuse. During Dave Week we provide that and more. For me this week is all about bringing people together, for good.

The group of people attending has grown every year. Some of our favorite businesses have even gotten into the action, including Culver’s! They have always provided discounts for those celebrating.

The one thing Dave Week isn’t, is a week all about me. Some have mistakenly thought that this week is about me marketing myself and trying to gain popularity or to further my career. As a 4th grade teacher, I am pretty sure this will not help move me up the corporate ladder, since there isn’t one.

If this was about anyone, I’d say Lauren and Elyse deserve just as much, if not more, credit than I do since they were the two that came up with the idea. But this isn’t about them either.

This week is about the entire community. There are too many things in the world that divide, it’s nice to have a week where we can just bring people together and have fun with no other agenda than to enjoy each others company, have fun, and to build up those around us.

Maybe we will even make it on TV again! The past three years during the Utah Jazz game Alema has mentioned #DaveWeek on air.

Tickets for the Jazz/Clippers game Saturday, January 20th are on sale now and need to be purchased by January 5th to guarantee seating with our group.

If you know about something fun going on January 16th-20th let me know soon and we will see if we can add it to the calendar of events. If you have a business that would be willing to give our group some discounts, we would love to fit you in as well. The events usually include bowling, a movie, service, #treatyourself, and a Jazz game.

Most importantly though, I hope that during the week I will have a chance to see you and enjoy catching up. If you aren’t able or close enough to come to the events, try and find a way that you can build the community where you live. Sponsor your own Dave Week activity and invite all of your friends! It has been fun seeing people post about things they have done all around the world!

I hope that this Dave Week is our greatest yet! All I know is that if you come, it will make it that much better.
